Getting Things Right With God

From the moment we are born, we are spiritually detached from God, a state we’ve inherited due to the original sin committed by Adam in the Garden of Eden. This separation is the root of all human suffering, leading to diseases, hatred, racism, inequality, poverty, hunger, and more.

We, as humans, are unable to fix our separation from God. All self-help methods, including religion, are simply futile attempts at solving a problem far beyond our reach. So, where do we find the solution to this predicament?

The answer lies in Jesus Christ. True faith in His life, death, and resurrection is the only way to heal the spiritual separation between man and God. Once a person sincerely places their trust in Christ, they experience salvation.

Who is Jesus, you ask?

We don’t want to seem anxious, but whew, we thought you’d never ask this urgent question. Smile. Jesus is the most wonderful person ever to grace this earth, and that’s putting it mildly. He is God’s Word personified or wrapped in flesh (John 1:1, 14). He is the ONLY path to truth and life, and no one can reach God the Father except through Him exclusively (John 14:6). We cannot reach God the Father through the Prophet Muhammad, Buddha, Confucius, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, and so on. Jesus is the way, truth, and life.

Jesus came to Earth in human form to sacrificially die for mankind. His death was required to bridge the chasm between humans and God, a gap created by Adam’s disobedience. The sin of the first Adam brought death to all, but Jesus, often referred to as the last Adam, rectified this (1 Corinthians 15:45).

Who requires salvation?

We all do. Every one of us is born separated from God. Salvation refers to the spiritual and eternal deliverance granted immediately by God to those who truly repent and have faith in Jesus. The moment this occurs, a person is “born-again,” blessed with eternal life by the Holy Spirit. Now born again, a person must follow Jesus’ teachings and example to be ultimately saved.

How does one achieve salvation?

Follow these four simple steps:

  1. Feel genuine remorse for your sins. (II Corinthians 7:10)
  2. Invite Jesus into your heart.
  3. Believe with all your heart that Jesus died for your sins and God raised Him from the dead.
  4. Declare that Jesus is your Lord and Savior to your friends and everyone. Don’t be ashamed of following the greatest and most loving person ever. (Romans 10:9-10)
Here’s the salvation prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and that He lives now. Lord Jesus, I invite You into my heart. I want You to live in me and through me. I repent of my sins and give myself entirely to You.” Holy Spirit make me a new person and lead me into a deeper understanding of Jesus.”

Ok, I prayed the salvation prayer, what's next?

First, Congratulations! The angels in Heaven are celebrating your fantastic choice. You’ve made a wise decision in your life. Yet, not everyone is pleased for you, especially Satan. He wants to lead you towards a destructive path, not towards the eternal life that comes with following Jesus. He will use every possible trick to make you regret choosing to follow Jesus and to tempt you back to his side. Right now, you’re particularly vulnerable to his strategies because your faith is still developing, much like what the Bible calls a “baby Christian.”

Satan will use various means, such as people, challenges, and temptations, to make you continue living a sinful life. But there’s a way to stand firm against him. Here’s what you can do next to strengthen your faith and resist both Satan’s influence and the pull of sin:

  1. Engage with a church community, which holds immense value. Your pastor will provide you with essential teachings from the Word of God, much like a newborn needs nourishing milk.

  2. Forge friendships with steadfast Christian believers. They offer crucial support, accountability, companionship, and direction.

  3. Temporarily, it might be wise to distance yourself from friends who don’t share your faith. Your existing friends have considerable sway over you, and Satan can exploit this to keep you entangled in sinful behaviors. As you grow stronger, you’ll be better positioned to positively influence them toward following Jesus.

  4. Enlist the help of a Christian friend to recommend a suitable study Bible. With various Bible versions available, some might be challenging for newcomers. A Christian friend can guide you toward the version best suited for new believers.

  5. Cultivate the habit of reading the Bible daily, considering it as your spiritual food and sustenance. Just as you require daily nourishment for your body, consistent Bible reading is essential to avoid spiritual weakness.

  6. Engage in regular prayer about every facet of your life. Similar to how infants need constant care, rely on the Lord for guidance. Foster the habit of maintaining an ongoing conversation with Him, much like you would with a close friend.

  7. When you sin repent and seek forgiveness from Jesus. While our aspiration as Christians is to rise above sin, we often fall short. In such moments, it’s vital to swiftly turn to Jesus for forgiveness. He will pardon us and help us steer clear of repeating the same mistakes in the future.
